Tourist encounters constitute an important arena for the communication about the past, creating the opportunity to learn about the other but also for the reproduction of stereotypes and conflicts. The project involves close collaboration with tour guides and tourist organisations to improve existing heritage communication and develop practice-orientated lessons for the future.

• In collaboration with tour guides, the project will develop guidelines for the communication of contested memories and heritage sites.
• The project will explore perceptions and experiences of Russian tourists and share them with local tourism managers, helping them in the planning of tourist marketing.
• The project will also seek to engage Russian tourists and a wider public by inviting them to reflect on their perceptions and experiences of Russia’s neighbouring states.
